Red—The Colour of the CityShort film produced for The Colour of the City exhibition at the RCA in December 2017.
I created a film from a series of prints I made using letterpress ‘furniture’—the blocks usually used to add negative space between type. The geometric nature of the prints was intended to evoke the grid-like structure of certain cities or buildings.
The soundtrack is made by layering different sounds recorded in the letterpress workshop, creating a cacophony inspired by urban noise.
The films were screened both in one of the college workshops, and in the glass-walled stairwell at one of the ends of the White City campus, allowing them to be seen by passers by, and helping to announce the RCA’s arrival in White City.
